Project Description :
Various factors are essential in transforming a building into a standout piece of architecture, including geographical and temporal needs, materials, construction technologies, and more. However, a more decisive element is the design of buildings as urban landmarks. The Royal Address shopping center, located in the Elahiyeh district of Tehran, faced the challenge of standing out amid numerous similar shopping centers in the area. To address this, the architectural team adopted an innovative design approach.
The design team crafted a simple yet elegant formal concept that sharply contrasts with the surrounding shopping centers. This formal concept is one of the most significant aspects of any architectural work, intricately connected to various social, spatial, geographical, and economic factors. In this project, the designers explored the semantic idea of a store window. By opting for a straightforward and sophisticated form, they aimed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, fostering a constructive relationship between the economic functions of the interior and the streetscape.
The project features two cubic forms: one for the commercial section on the ground level and another for office spaces on the upper floors. At ground level, a massive concrete structure frames two expansive glass facades, as if safeguarding a valuable treasure. Through these glass surfaces, the vibrant activity of the interior spaces is visible. The entrance to the building is situated between these two glass panels, leading customers into the project’s central heart.
Inside, the minimalist design is complemented by a map of Tehran displayed on the side wall of the central void, providing visitors with a unique shopping experience that surprises them with its novelty. Furthermore, by incorporating lively colors, the design team sought to establish a distinctive identity for the building and create lasting memories for its users
